"Thanks to everyone following my progress. Here is a picture of me in my pants from January, they are a bit too big now. May was tougher than April, but then it should be. Training totals for May include 36,400 yards of swimming, 184 miles of running and 758 miles on the bike. The long bike rides are up to 112 miles, long runs 17 miles and long swims 5200 yards. My race, Ironman Coeur d’ Alene is finally arriving in just one month, June 29th. I have one really big week of training and then it is time to taper down for the race. Emotionally and physically I am really ready for the taper. Training for an Ironman does not just tax you physically it is also an emotional rollercoaster. You have workouts where you have a lot of energy and feel great and then you have days where you are riding into the wind for 4 hours, aching back, legs and neck.
I have struggled some with a muscle spasm in my back, some irritated muscles and such. I am optimistic that with the 3 weeks of taper that I will be good to go for the race. One fun thing to do in order to get a feel for just how long an Ironman takes it to track my progress. You can log onto the Ironman website, type in my name and can track my progress during the day. I wear a timing chip during the race and each time I cross a checkpoint, it updates on the web. The swim starts at around 6:40 am and the final cutoff time is Midnight.
