The Aquatic Fitness Bike is the Latest Workout for Full Body Conditioning

Jul 1, 2013 11:59:02 AM / by SwimEx Blog

Aquatic exercise isn’t just for swimming the butterfly, freestyle or side stroke any more. In fact, when you think outside of the box and go outside your exercise comfort zone, your swim strokes can become so much more. Incorporate your two great loves –bike riding in the outdoors and exercising in the water, and you’ve just developed the perfect weekly exercise plan.

You can bike in a pool? Who knew? Well, now you do, and it’s time to get this ball rolling in order to get your body in shape like it’s never been.

If you live for water focused workouts, but can’t stand another one of those repetitive back and forth backstroke workouts, try this one for size: put the pedal to the medal! Whether you opt for the basic strokes of bike riding, or you literally work with an underwater bike, here are some of the best and easiest ways to bike ride your way to a total body workout – no matter your fitness level or age (and no matter the size of your pool.)

The Leg Lift

Every great cycling session should start with the right warm-up, so make sure that you don’t neglect yours. The leg lift is a wonderful three minute workout to start off with so that you warm up your muscles properly and thoroughly. Start by standing in the water and then resting your elbows on the side in an effort to support your body.

With your legs bent and out in front of you, start pedaling, as if you were riding your bike on land. Tighten up your core, and pedal in a controlled motion for up to three minutes. You’ll get warmed up in no time at all, and begin to reshape, strengthen and re-energize your body.

Did you know that exercising in water will give you more benefits than working out on land? Many people tend to avoid swimming as a way to lose weight or get toned for fear that it is less of a workout, but that’s hardly the case. In fact, aquatic cycling can actually give you more of a workout than bike riding alone.

For anyone who has suffered from an injury and wants to strengthen their joints, aquatic cycling can speed up their recovery process without the risk of a high impact workout that stair climbing or the treadmill can cause.

Place an aquatic fitness bike in your pool, and immersed halfway in the water, and halfway out, you’ll maximize your workout. This exercise can be a great starter for overweight people who want to blast fat and burn calories. Male or female, you can work your way to weight loss quickly, and increase the resistance as you improve your fitness. After all, who says working out has to be a repetitive and mind numbing process? When you use the pool to strengthen tone and lose weight, you can pedal your way to a revitalizing exercise routine, and develop a whole new body!
